Funny Electronic games (BEFORE THE COMPUTER CHIP!!)

When I was a kid, there was an arcade game on Brighton Pier. It was an aerial gunnery game, where you peered through a viewfinder at an actual movie (in black & white!) of a German fighter plane coming in to attack. Superimposed (optically) was a set of gunsight rings which would move controlled by a gun handle & trigger underneath.

When you pulled the trigger there was a satisfying sound of machine gun fire. The challenge was supposedly to get the enemy plane in the centre of the sight ring to score/register a hit.

Now for the clever bit. The score counter was outside the booth, so could only be seen after the game was over. As I learned a long time later, while watching a mate, the counter would register an increased count whenever you pulled the trigger regardless of where the gunsight was pointing!!!!!!

And I used to think I was such a hot shot flier................

This was my game when I was growing up.

I bought my brother one for a Christmas present recently and it bought back some good memories.

Astro Wars! Had that along with some Game & Watch handhelds.

Do you remember the arcade Clay Pigeon shooting game? You had a rifle and you shot at lights projected from the rear onto a screen.

Was totally different to the Space Invaders cabs so you always had to have a go. I think it was made by these guys:

Problem I had with mine was batteries. They used to leak and ruin the connectors.. back then you just threw them out rather than clean them up.

i've got my vectrex at home and it working great, my 3 year old nephew has been playing on it and enjoying himself
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

But when you broke your AC adapter and the one from your toy never worked (despite trying to make it!) you had to resort to size D batteries!

    Nice...

Whats the Game and Watch titles?

I had Mario's cement factory. Complete with warn box and polystyrene innards. Metal case pretty scratched. But screen mint. Sold it on eBay years back and got over £200. They can go for silly money now and other times, not much at all. Cant figure it out.

I would love Frogger. But also, original table top Bomb Jack (version with side tapping bonus) and Arkanoid Revenge of the Doh.

Some of the versions, when in the air, and against the side, if you tapped the controller, to that same side you are up against while floating down. You got points for every tap.

A friend and I have looked at those.

Now they are circa 4k, I might get two!

Not got the frogger any more. I remember taking it to bits for some reason.

I have the clamshell two screen version of Mario Bros, and Donkey Kong II.

Would sell in a heartbeat if I thought i'd get £200 for them!

I always liked Mario's Milk factory. Do you have the cases or are they just the consoles? It is a realyl strange market. Some even newer Nintendo items if sealed or near immaculate, are worth a lot. There is an online service http://www.vggrader.com/ for sealing and grading. I have a Red, unopened Wii. I might do that. But then, whats the fecking point! These things go up and down, in favour for a few months in one year, then off the boil for many years in a row.

Another strange sale, not game, was VHS Willow the Wisp. On eBay, I was asked, all episodes. Yes. Ended up going for over £20. It was a few squids on DVD on play.com. After, i saw him re-listing trying to get £50, never, to my knowledge, sold.

People will buy nostalgia at ludicrous prices. As would I, music based.
