This bumblebee was floundering in my sons paddling pool which had collected an inch or so of rainwater. I noticed it on its back. I have to admit, I rather nervously put my hand to it so it could climb out. I've had honey bees, miner and mason bees on my hand but not bumble bees. I guess these are always the ones you associate as a child as the ones that sting, especially when they used to come investigating your bright clothing .
Anyway, I figured that like any other insect, when it's cold and wet, it'll happily seek warmth. Fortunately, this one was no different and was more than happy to climb up and appreciate the warmth (especially between my thumb and forefinger where it moved to immediately before exploring)
Onto my arm
..and finally a different bee busy in a flower.
