    Attention The Road [2009]

Not a new film, but I only watched it recently. It's a post apocalyptic story, based on a book written by the guy who wrote No Country for Old Men.

So there are plenty of post apocalyptic films out there that are entertaining, and No Country for Old Men is one of the best films going, so I thought 'yeah, this will be ace'........and I was wrong.

This is the most depressing film I have ever seen. Of course, films with depressing elements can be good: The Wrestler, Leaving Last Vegas......but The Road is something else.

Sure the acting was good, so I'll give it a few points for that, but as a film it was terrible. It may have been an allegory for modern life or something else, but I don't care.....I wanted to sit down and enjoy a film and instead got this miserable tripe.

    And as for the ending....

    Spoiler:
What a tacked-on bullshit 'happy' ending. Having made a sad and macabre film, they should have at least had the balls to follow through in line with the tone of the rest of the film.

Don't watch this unless you are trying to talk yourself into suicide.

    3/10

    Would agree with the above

Ive just checked IMDB to make sure I was thinking of the same film and it got 7.3 on IMDB, however for me its deffo a 3 or 4 out of 10.

If I sart watching a film I watch it through to the end but this was painful and seemed to go on forever

Read the book and it is depressing. A good read but depressing..

Sometimes they should leave things alone and stop with the typical US 'Happy Endings'

Watched this a few years ago, I found the whole film to just be depressing, wasnt a big fan at all

    agree with your 3/10
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

Does the book not have the same ending? I sort of liked the movie as i like any big budget post apocalyptic stuff but it was a bit up its own arse - I realise they don't tell you what actually happened to destroy the world but what was the story with the missing thumbs?

Actually I believe they both end the same. But they do make out in the movie the Son is going to be 'A' fucking Ok despite what happened..

I must be the only person I know who thought this film was good.

Yes its depressing but I thought it showed the father's love for his son really well.

I was really moved by the sacrifices the father made to ensure his son's survival and just under the darkness was a universal theme of love and hope.

But then again nobody agrees with me!
