hi guys not into photography as much as i'd like to be and please don't laugh when i ask i have a lumix DMC-FS30 its only a point and shoot but how can i get it to take faster pictures???????? sorry for my noobness

Press the button really quickly?

What is it exactly you're referring to when you say you want it to take faster photos?

Are you referring to the shutter speed or the time it takes for the camera to actually take the shot from when you've pressed the shutter button?


If you want it to take a really fast exposure to freeze action then choose a faster shutter speed such as (for example) 1/400th and higher etc. Remember, the faster your shutter speed, the less light therefore, you will need to either be shooting in very bright light or if that's not available, open up the aperture and/or increase the ISO.

If the camera has a delay from when you press the shutter button to it actually taking the photo, there's nothing you can do but buy a better camera.

Take into consideration that the quality of the pictures you're taking (14.1 MegaPixel) could be 5-10mb's each.

If your using the highest settings to get the highest megapixel image, it could take a few seconds on compact camera to transfer the data to the SD Card.
I believe a DSLR will have internal memory (like RAM) that allows for image manipulation and transferring the images is less of a strain on the camera.

Although the Panasonic Lumix are one of the better range of compact Cameras, you shouldn't expect miracles.

A £100 camera is still only a £100 camera.

Or do you mean burst mode? As has been stated by deja and dp it's down to a number if factors.
If you camera gas the burst mode function it will have an icon that looks like 3or4 bits of paper sitting on top of each other.
If you have this and it's still not shooting quick as you'd want, make sure you're using lowest possible file sizes and quality, this will help with write speeds to the card.

I have heard however that If we can Shoehorn Linux onto it, then I'll be able to run it up the flagpole and push the button on that.
