Help Windows Media Player streaming MKV's

    Hi All

I am using Windows Media Player to stream media around me house, I use WMP to do it as I like the Security aspect where you whitelist the devices that can see the media. This is on a Microserver running WHS2011 64bit

Anyhow I have got media player to play MKV's by installing Sharkys Codec (http://shark007.net/) and also the reg hack to get WMP to show the MKV's as Video rather than Other Media.

When I go on me Pana TV or PS3 the new files show but come up as Unsupported Media, If I play the same files thru Plex they work fine on PS3.

Either anyone know how to fix the WMP issue or do they know another media streamer where you can restrict access to certain devices?

PS3 (and probably your TV) doesn't support MKV's by design.

You should use something like PS3MediaServer to transcode MKV's on the fly, which has now been expanded to support Smart TVs.

Yeah I know its something to do with transcoding on the fly as Plex Transcodes on fly and that's why it works thru plex.

Looks like you can turn off Plex DNLA and make devices Require authentication on local networks so will try this and hope this will solve the issue ;-)
