    Help Slow cooker recipes?

I know there are loads of books and sites out there but I want to know if anyone on here as any personal favourites they use in the slow cooker?

    Soups, stews, curries?

Particularly after a good curry recipe for this weekend, (non coconut or creamy). Missus likes the more tomato based curries and refuses to eat any meat other than chicken (apart from the occasional Scotch pork sausage ;-) )

So if you have any recipes whatever they may be, please post them up here and we will get a good list going :-)

can't beat pork belly in the slow cooker (I know it's not chicken) - this one is from the BBC and I've done it a couple of times

    • 1.3kg piece pork belly, boned, rind left on and scored (ask your butcher to do this)
    • 2 tsp sunflower oil
    • 1 tsp white peppercorns, crushed
    • 3 large onions, sliced
    • 2-3 tbsp clear honey
    • 2 tsp ground cumin
    • 1 red chilli, deseeded and chopped

    1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Lay the pork, skin-side up, on a rack in a roasting tin. Trickle with a little oil, then lightly press on the crushed peppercorns and a sprinkling of coarse sea salt. Place in the oven, then cook for 1 hr. Remove from the oven and baste with the juices. Continue to cook for a further 1½ hrs, basting every 20 mins.
    2. Put the sliced onions in the roasting tin under the pork. Mix the honey together with the cumin and chilli, brush it over the pork, then increase the oven to 200C/fan 180C/ gas 6. Cook for a further 30-40 mins, basting occasionally, until caramelised with a rich, golden glaze over the pork. Once cooked and tender (this can be easily tested by piercing the flesh with a knife), remove pork from the oven, then leave to rest for 10-15 mins.
    3. While the pork is resting, heat the tin on the stove with the onions, adding 2 tbsp water. This will lift any residue from the pan, creating a moist cooking liquor. Season the onions with salt and pepper, then divide between 6 plates. Carve pork into 6 portions, then serve on top of the onions.

Pulled Pork - best done by just throwing it all in:
I prefer a chinese theme so:

    2 jars hoy sin
    good glug dark soy
a splurge of two of honey or treacle
LOADS of garlic - I usually put in eight cloves
    couple of teaspoons of ginger
couple of teaspoons of five spice
    a rough chopped onion
    salt and pepper to taste.

Eight hours on low heat (best overnight)

Then remove, discard the layer of fat and shred using 2 forks

decant the sauce/juice from the slow cooker and half it (I freeze the remainder for next time)

with the half that's left, thicken it with some cornflour or arrowroot (mix with water to form a paste, THEN add to sauce) in a saucepan.

When the sauce is hot, throw the lot back in the slow cooker and stir it, so the meat is covered in the sauce.

Serve how you like, I fill Pitta's, or wraps, but you can have it with pretty much anything.

somes superb. some recipes suggest using pineapple juice with the pork as it brings out the flavour? http://www.fifteenspatulas.com/slow-...q-pulled-pork/

that recipe in the link looks good but its missing the spices etc from all the others ive seen. any suggestions on how to liven that recipe up? :-)

My best mate described one to me once but I can't remember it properly. Basically it was cook a gammon joint in the slow cooker topped up with full fat coca cola. Once that had been done for (dunno) hours put it in the oven and keep coating it in a mustard and honey and something glaze. Obviously I've not tried it but it sounds great. Also there's some normal oven use in there too.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

My own personal take on a shepherds pie....

(P.S for those that get confused.. not teaching anyone to suck eggs but so many get it wrong.... Shepherds pie = Lamb.. Cottage pie = Beef)

Anyway instead of using mince just slow cook a load of lamb either diced or leg/shoulder e.t.c (I fry it with the trinity of veg.. onion, carrot, celery all finley diced b4 chuckin in the slow cooker)
Cook it for about 6 hours so it is falling off the bone.. I cook with a good veg stock, lots of mint sauce & rosemary .. always use a couple of bay leaves and the usual seasoning + glug of wine..
Then I use this to make the Shepherds pie instead of the usual mince mixture... (you can have the mash done and just chuck it on at last mo and back in oven for 25 mins)
    Loverly

Also someone told me to try this and it worked great .. instead of mash when ur ready just grate potatoes on the top and chuck in oven as normal.. stops it gettin mushy if u got a lot of gravy and the grated potato comes out similar to mash but with a bit of texture....was actually really good

    Thanks to macmilm

i do a weird concoction that my family absolutely love,

couple of tins of chunky vegetable soup and a couple of oxtail, loads of mixed veg, very roughly chop a large onion and a couple of very big potatoes, throw in some stewing steak chunks and leave in slow cooker while out at work (for us thats nearly 10 hours!!)
when home make up some small suet dumplings and drop them in the top until cooked then serve - seems to taste even better when warmed through for the next day as a leftovers lunch.

Also as tiggerbiker says suet dumplings are great.. gotta be small as he says though or you will be waiting too long for em to cook

Ginger Beer is good for this too
    http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/ginger-glazed-ham
She says to simmer it on the hob but I'd just double the cooking time for the slow cooker.

    Thanks to Hippie on hill

Slice a couple of onions and 6 cloves of garlic.
Put these in the bottom of the cooker, then add about half a cup of boiling water mixed with a stock cube, this should just cover the onions.
Sit the fucking pork on top, having covered it with a dry mix 1 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, brown sugar, cinnamon, chili and smoked paprika if you have it.
Turn the twat on and walk away for 6 hours.

Come back pour off the liquid and set aside. Strip the pork, mix with the onions then skim the fat off the liquid.
Add a bit of the liquid back to the pork with some bbq sauce and eat the cunt on a bun with either coleslaw or sauerkraut.
