That doesnt seem to backup MMS. In the end I installed GoSMS Pro, i'd done a backup/restore from/to gmail previously so GoSMS saw them all, once i'd installed that, hangouts would then allow me to log out of hangouts and still see my SMS so uninstalled GoSMS.

I've decided to go back to the S4, called google for an RMA for returning the nexus, reasons
* Worse camera software (hardware seems quite good, better than S4 in low light)
* Bad SMS interface, hate hangouts for SMS
* No hardware buttons for back/menu
* No IR blaster (yes, I use the S4 as a tv remote at times )
* No SD Slot
* Toggles for wifi/bt etc are a simple swipe and press on S4, on nexus it's a swipe, a press and another press
* Speaker nowhere near as loud as S4 one

I know it won't matter now but two finger swipe down on notification bar will take you straight to quick settings.
I'm not too keen on the idea of hangouts and logging in for texts. I assume this will come with kit kat and is something we'll have to get used to eventually.
Over on XDA there is the MMS.apk from AOSP which allows users to set normal sms/mms as default and changes hangouts back to how it was originally.

Interesting article here about kitkat allowing the runtime to be changed from Dalvik to ART.. people reporting greater speed & smoothness using apps.. whatsapp appears to be one of the few apps not working on ART atm..

I've just moved from the S4 to the LG G2, and it pretty much fixes all the issues you had above apart from no SD slot and hardware button. The camera on this thing is amazing, with a Sony Exmor chip and brilliant low light performance. IR blaster works better than my S4 in that I no longer need to point it directly at the equipment, and the battery life is best in class

Thing is there are single degrees of improvement between any of these phones now. A tweak of the ui or faster cpu etc.but the differences are very minute and entirely personal choice.
