Anyone Savvy with Twitter? Can this type of search be done?

Morning all, I just wondered if it would be possible to see the most followed people on twitter for a certain location?

So maybe the most followed within "Manchester" or most followed for "Sport Manchester".

Can this be done? Im still pretty new to twitter.

I am sure it will automatically do some sort of searching based on activity around you.
So when you register and give your location or have location services turned on (if using a smart phone) then it will have an option to look around you.

I have just opened up the iPhone app and clicked on the 'Discover' link. I typed in Sport Manchester which brought up 1 Twitter user called @SportManchester but then a load of tweets that seem to have been categorised into that search.

Give it a try, what are you using it on?

Thanks mate, I'm using either a mac or iPhone. I've had a play around and can't seem to get the results that I want. I'm not even sure how it finds or organises its results.

I was just hoping that I could see who are the most followed people within an area for a particular search term. I've discovered that I can use search terms like: near:manchester within:10km but then struggle with the most followed.

Cheers Goldberg, its not really what I'm after to be honest. I'll keep on hunting just thought that there might have been an easy way that I was missing

I am sure there are lots of lists etc.. kicking around that use the Python API. It is not something I use it for unfortunately.

You could use something to generate a report. Recently the good folk on here pointed me to a website called If This Then That https://ifttt.com/

You could set up a 'recipie' so that it searches twitter for various keywords and emails you a result each day? Just a thought.

*EDIT*

Actually scrap that, it doesn't go as deep as been able to search.

It is not going to do what you want for twitter but it is certainly powerful for other stuff.

Yeah it looks good mate, just having a look over the different recepies at the mo. Shame the sms alerts arent working for Orange.
