    Help ebay bought lightning chargers

Hi just wondering if anyone can clear this up, i just bought a couple of these chargers from ebay and now when i try to use them i get a message on my phone saying that it is not a certified charger so will not charge the phone, anyone know if there is a way to work around this? i have had a quick google of this and it seems that its ios7 which has this check done and will refuse to charge a device if its not certified by apple

Afaik there are chips in the cables to authenticate them so not sure if there will be a workaround.

i think on the original roll out of ios7 there was a work around with dismissing the message and unplugging the charger and plugging back in, but either with 7.0.1 or 7.0.2 they put a stop to that work around..........a bit pants though, surely its my device so its me charging it at my own risk.........but oh well what can i do thats my mini rant over and done with

    I noticed this the other.

Nope it didn't, grabbed my phone a headed out the next day with 7% battery.

As already mentioned. There is a component in the phone that will only allow a certain amp. For example:

    non-apple chargers - maybe 6.5 amps.
Official Apple Chargers - 6.7 amps.

If it is not spot on, the iDevice will not accept it. There was a diagram on the net to fix this, if you know what you are doing.

There is an authentication chip in the cable end which is signed. The Chinese had hacked this good enough to run with the checks done by iOS 6.x but obviously hadn't done as complete enough a job to be future proof. They just mimicked the challenges and responses given but iOS 7 makes different calls.

I seem to remember Chipworks did a lot of work reverse engineering the lightning to USB interface.

you can now get ios7 and 5s compatible cables, be careful as some cables are sold as working with ios7 however they arent compatible with the 5s.

i bought these from china and they work fine.

    Default ebay bought lightning chargers

    Since getting my 5s
I have bought 2 cables from poundland there by 2 different manufacturers. One is in my car and one is in work.
They both work fine on my 5s and iPad mini.
However my official apple cable doesn't work with a friends iphone 5.

Yes it may be a false economy however if you only buy say 3 in a 2 year period you have still saved £12 vs a genuine apple product.

Should also add all the devices I've tested them on are running the latest ios7
