It's probably the most reliable media player.

Plays all media types from your own to streaming of media

I don't know anything else that comes close to it

look up raspbmc, basically a full media player for the raspberry pi and should cost you under £50 all in for the hardware or you can run it on an old pc
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

your question is a bit broad mate, at its heart XBMC is a linux OS thats tuned to play media, but thats sort of obvious from the name of it....

anything else you need to know you need to ask more specific questions, theres a FAQ on xbmc.com thats about 10million pages long so we need a few bones here if you want some direction.

Another to look at is Plex. It does most the stuff (if not all) that XBMC does yet it allows you to remotely stream your media to anything that will take a plex client. I currently use my phone, laptop, Samsung TV and a sky now box. My mum and a few friends use it remotely as well.

    Thanks to beerman

    1channel, icefilms, Navi-X, SportsDevil

    XBMChub .com

For the adult stuff you need to register with Naxi-x and enable the adult content there or add the adult repository from the unofficial XBMC repo http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Unoffici...n_repositories and install the adult add ons from the repository.

    Wrong.

XBMC is a multi platform application that lends itself solely to the viewing of HTPC media.
XBMCBuntu is a Linux OS, or more of a distro designed specifically for the XBMC Application... although, does not come anywhere close to the Standalone version of OpenElec.

    Just saying.
