Default [INFO] Using Draytek VDSL router with BT Infinity

Just a quick post as I had a little trouble setting up a Draytek Vigor 2760 to BT Infinity, the guides from Draytek aren't quite correct.

Network, WAN, DSL, tick and click edit
Set connection to VDSL or VDSL2
    PPPoE
Username can be found on your BT HomeHub3, login to the homehub (192.168.1.254), go to settings, advanced settings, broadband/internet and note the email address. Mine was bthomehub@btbroadband.com
I entered 1234 as the password, I think anything will do though
PPP Authentication is PAP or CHAP
    MTU 1492
    VLAN Encapsulation ticked
    VLAN ID 101
    Priority 0
    Connection detection ticked
    Mode Auto
    Always on ticked
Click OK at the bottom and reboot router, now you don't need the BT modem or homehub!

    Thanks to evilsatan

How much do they come in at? I've been using a Fritzbox 7390 with two of their dect phones and they are kicking some ass functionality wise and new firmwares are releases with new features rather than just lists of bug fixes.

    http://www.fritzbox.eu/en/products/F...ndex.php?tab=1

Setup was too easy and been synching at full speed since day one and after a move too.

They all vary but I find Draytek to be excellent. I have the 2850Vn which runs my office line through VoIP but the 2760n is about £135.

Very interesting. A few years ago I had a stack of bt routers (voyager 205?). In these, they had some default bt credentials to connect to adsl service. Anyway, got asked to look at a failed internet connection and got it working using one of these without having to change to the correct credentials for the line. Found out a few years later the service had been terminated on that line hence no internet, but somehow the BT router magically worked for about 3 years until BT noticed and complained.

Also I remember looking at connectivity issues on a site with 2 x adsl connections (I think both Zen). Tech support told me I could swap the routers between the lines and the fact the credentials wouldn't be the ones specified for the lines wasn't a problem.

BT residential broadband uses bthomehub@btinternet.com (password is bt) as the generic login, BT business authenticates using a unique username and password (some really weird passwords are generated by BT).

Tried the same today with the same router but BT business infinity this time and I am having difficulties... BT Business uses unique usernames and passwords rather than the generic used by residential. Even using the correct credentials it fails to connect. I am experimenting and will post back...

Looks like my problem was resolved by resetting to factory and setting up again following the details in my original post but using the unique user/pass

I get alsorts of problems with BT. I'm wondering if any of them would be resolved by getting a Draytek.

Latest one was 30 second delay between page loads on Infinity. I'm sure my HH4 was doing shit it shouldn't before letting me access a page.
Might have access to an unused 2850n if I sweet talk the fella it belongs too. Worth a bit of grovelling for?

I have the 2850Vn myself, love it. Can't imagine using a basic router ever again as I now have so much control over my network!

Trust me mate, in the same vein, once you've tried out pfSense you probably won't want to go back to Drayteks.
