Plex on a Chromecast

So... Google announced 10 new apps for the chromecast, today. One of which is Plex. Might make it worthwhile owning a chromecast. If you have contacts in the US, it costs $35. Which would work out as a very cheap media streamer. I would even hazard a guess that an XBMC app will make an appearance at some point...! b

I don't think we will see xbmc. It's a different beast to plex client and needs a lot more horsepower.

On the Play Store>Apps>Categories then there are two options above the list: Editors Choice and Chromecast, seems they are getting ready for the rush. . .

What formats does the Chromecast play?

Just started messing with Plex but I don't think my atv2 will play mkv's except in xbmc. My NAS Synology isn't powerful enough to transcode to atv2 so chromecast might be another solution.

Only place I've found available to ship the Chromecast in the UK is this seller on Amazon and costs £41.75 delivered.
I think this is a great idea, but needs to be priced better to compete with the Raspberry Pi.

Unless you can offload the transcoding to the Chromecast you'll have the same issue. Even if you can, I doubt the chromecast is powerful enough for local transcoding.

Has Chromecast had an update or something recently? Had mine 2 weeks or so now and it streamed everything I threw at it flawlessly, but this week it seems to stutter a little. Sorts itself eventually, but it is a tad annoying.

Had mine about six months and its pretty reliable. I get the odd stutter now and again but seems fine today.

Shame iPlayer is not working on cheapcast (the rip off version) yet as I guess BT Sports won't either.
