    Tech Phantom 2 Vision

I know I posted in the other quad copter thread but thought I'd post my own thread and update whenever I get decent footage. This is the 3rd time Ive had it out and thought I'd see how high it went (towards the end of the clip).
I bottled though as it was out of sight.
(The video does record in full 1080p but the youtube compression does spoil it a bit)

    apparently ......
DJI Phantom 2 Vision quadrocopter camera

Inevitably, every gadget and gizmo loses its allure over time. The DJI Phantom 2 Vision is the rare exception. This quadrocopter (that's a helicopter with four rotors) has a built-in high-def camera and so works like a personal drone. And it can fly to an astounding quarter-mile high.

    Default Phantom 2 Vision

That's quality. My mate has an RC plane with a go pro attached (for filming movie shorts) but it's nowhere near as controlled as that and the footage is usually poor because of it. Think he'll invest in one of these after I show him the clip!

That's brilliant and the range in unbelievable.

Are they easy to fly? And are parts easily changed if damaged?

Parts are dead easy to get for phantoms tbh it's one of the reasons I went phantom and not blade, seemed easier to get parts. If her interested I'll have a phantom for sale next week as I've ordered a phantom 2 with a gimbal.

Is this better than a parrot drone ?

I know the parrot has a cam that streams but the overhead is battery drain.

Just been watching the videos of these drones flying and really want to get one, just not sure what to buy.

I can't compare as this is the first thing I've owned that fly's with the exception of paper aeroplanes. Its very easy to fly, left stick is rotate left/right and altitude is up/down while the right stick is move forward/back/left and right. The sticks spring back to centre when released and the phantom will hover in the same place even in a light wind using GPS when both sticks are centre. Even if the phantom loses the signal from the controller it will automatically fly to and land where it took off from. There's an audible alarm to say the battery is running low and I'd say it's been well designed specifically for a novice like myself.

I am a total n00b and I was taken in by _Belial's clips in the other thread, so was in exactly the same boat as you 2 week ago.

They can move at quite a pace mate, think it's 10m/s or something max horizontal speed.

I'm expecting my new phantom 2 (not the vision like soulassassin has) with the zenmuse gimbal this week so I can take silky smooth videos. Went for the phantom 2 and not the vision for the gimbal (much smoother than the vision) and it has longer range too.

Here's another vid I did lunchtime at the beach yesterday with my phantom 1 + gopro.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qUR...VvFSgV1srieF1w

And here's a vid of the phantom 2 with the gimbal, dead easy to install

I had a parrot drone 2 that flipped and ditched on the first day I flew it.. seems there is/was a problem with the firmware.
It cost me £40 to repair so did that and sold it on.
There's always an inherent risk with any flying RC models but that was too much.. hopefully the Phantom has no such glitches

You can get the non-vision, phantom 1 for about £350, then just add your own cam or gopro to it.

Fking awesome video that. The height is crazy. Very tempted myself but Road Bike, telephoto lens, PC upgrade, new Sofa have to come first lol.

Something I'll seriously consider in the future and also when the little'un is a couple more years older too.

Popped over to the Lakes for a few nights, weather was actually quite decent and for the the first time in what seems like ages there was no gale force winds. Managed a few flights, need to sort some video editing skills out so I can better present clips. The descent seems very shaky for some reason, maybe a gimbal in the future will sort that. No editing straight from the card to youtube with music added, youtubes compression does spoil the detail though...

The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?
