Help Looking for a New laptop

I'm looking to buy a new laptop for my son's Christmas. I'm looking to spend no more than £500 and it will be mainly used for his A levels next year. A few guys at work recommended the following:

    • 15" screen
    • I5 processor or above
    • At least 6 GB Ram
    • At least 500mb of storage.
    • A dedicated graphics card is optional but I would consider it.

The guys at work told me to stay well clear off Acer and Packard Bell.

Can any of you guys recommend me a decent laptop around this spec and price?

Surely the "guys at work" can find something for you . Unless your gaming cannot see any reason for a dedicated gfx card as battery will be sacrificed and more Heat generated . Spec all looks fine but for me personally I would want a 17" screen .

HP or Dell, if you can get the "enterprise" end of the spectrum, they may look less flashy but build quality is generally better. I'd go i5 over i3.

SSD makes a world of performance difference, but at a cost.

Re Dedicated graphics, you aren't playing any games on a laptop at that price, so I really wouldn't bother. I run both my desktops on the intel embedded graphics, they are fine.

    All IMHO

    cheers
