Info Replacing an antique laptop, around 300 quid. What are my options?

Currently the missus has a aging laptop, cant be arsed to find the specs as all the details are worn away on the case stickers. Its a 4:3 14" screen and runs XP very slowly as it only has 512meg Ram, which is shared with the gfx. It doesnt help when a lot of the typical Chinese essential apps are bloated as fuck too.

I was looking at a few, A Lenovo G460, which seems to get very mixed reviews, but mostly it gets panned on the screen and battery life, and my current choice is a Dell Vostro 5560, which seems to have great specs with 4gig ram, 2gig gfx but the rest I am not sure about, ie the i3 3110M cpu, i am clueless.

I cant find a damn review for the dell anywhere, so I am not sure if it is branded differently in the west, most of the search results come from asian website, and none seem to be reviews anyway.

Here in China, Lenovo are a favourite, although I cant seem to find anything solid at this price range but to he honest it doesnt need to be a work horse, it would be preferable to have a bit of grunt, but really, anything will fly next to the current scrap. The main thing would be the screen really.

    Anyone throw me a bone?

cant help with the dell lappy but i love my (older) lenovo's - i have replaced all my lappys with them
even my workshop unit is an x200 tablet which i use in a motorcycle repair workshop for diagnostic work and see's loads of abuse. i maxed out its ram with 8gb, threw in a 256gb ssd and it simply flies

yeah the lenovo t400 series or x200 series. think the t400 has the14 inch screen, and the x200 the 12 inch.
