Just remember there is such a thing as water intoxication

True - you can overdose on just about anything and I certainly wouldn't recommend drinking 5 litres in one sitting.
I don't believe what I do is dangerous, however like an sudden change in diet it is often wise to consult your GP who can confirm what you are about to embark on is safe and won't cause you any harm.

I'm attempting to lose weight as well. Weight is 15st, 5' 9", target is 12st.
Went to the gym today, felt like shit, it was so hard. I used to be quite fit but let myself go once I retired from football. Plan on going gym 4-5 times a week alternating between cardio and light weights.
Have given up drinking alcohol, that will help with dieting as I tend to eat shit for a few days after a heavy session. Also binned fizzy drinks. I now drink loads of orange squash which I have pretty weak. Can't drink plain water.
Good luck to everyone trying to trim the fat
Just plain old exercise burn off what you put in.....
what do you like doing , swimming, running, walking, cycling?
get yourself outside running/jogging cycling after work no ones gonna see you as it's still dark if your that conscious about your appearance
Well I've started my year off well. Eating healthier, and I'm cutting out alcohol and all chocolate and snacks of any form for 6 months and if I last cut them all out together
Also been getting up off the couch every night and going a 15 min walk, which I hope to increase in time and eventually up to going a run, even if it's a small one most nights.
Can't sacrifice my cups of tea during the day though, I like milky and sugary tea (2 sugars) - although I might switch to decaffinated
So far so good!

Just flushed all the sugar in the house down the sink. 4-5 cups of tea a day, with 2 sugars each is about 8 - 10 sugars a tea. Cut that out and I should be healthier
Gonna be hard though. Love a cuppa

I tried to cut sugar from my tea loads of times but never managed it. I weaned myself down to half a sugar per cup and like it that way now.
I don't worry too much about the sugar I add to my tea and coffee. Although, I am not trying to lose weight, I'm looking to gain it. But in my quest to be healthier, I cut out all processed foods. Fruit has a lot of sugar, but that doesn't make it unhealthy. I also try and eat vegetarian 50% of the time and I have cut out dairy. I put almond milk on my cereal and soya milk in my tea. The thought of drinking the milk from an animal's breast actually makes me feel queasy now.
Stick honey in your tea, lovely...

No running for me this week as the roads are under water. Bit of a bummer.
Well on with the change of Diet now.
8lbs off so far.
Will be getting back into the cross trainer and some walking in the next week too so that should help with the loss.
I've been swapping between, fruit & yogurt, scrambled eggs beans & mushrooms & porridge for breakfasts.
Lunch all last week was 3 pieces of fruit and a yogurt.
Evening meals was a normal meal with no 2nd helpings.
Hoping if I stick to this I'll be doing the right thing and keep heading the right way on the scales.
evening all, just a little update.
9 weeks in now and i'm @ 19st 10lb so thats 2 stone off now.
Totally stuck to the change in eating habits and starting to introduce the exercise now.
Walked 4.8k to work last sat morning, 2k with the dog on Sunday & done a 5k, 10k session on the cross trainer this week.

Try to create an exercise regiment that contains both elements of cardio and weightlifting. Putting on solid muscle from weightlifting will increase you resting caloric metabolic rate, thereby burning more fat at periods of low activity. Cardio is good for furthering your endurance and helps a lot with 'pushing through' a workout or a tough spot. However, perhaps more important than the exercise itself is the nutritional aspect. You'll probably want to lower your carbohydrates and sugar intake. Vie for carbs that are slow burning such as brown rice, and fist sized portions or smaller. Consider eating more lean meats and season it to taste, combine with vegetables as often as possible; stir fry is a good way to do it. Personally, a very easy way to get in good nutrition is to buy a large blender and create a mixed veggie smoothie, with some fruit to taste. Most importantly, be consistent in your routine.
