So... I joined a shit gym. Only £16 a month. It was just so I could use their treadmills, what with all the bad weather we had. I slowly built up my stamina using intervals. And now run 5k, twice a week. I don't want to run too much, as I am doing this for health, not to lose weight. As I would rather gain, than lose.

On the plus side. The gym is rammed full of young hotties. (girls that is.)

Any updates from you, Call Me Goose?

yeah well the running didnt last long, and its basically taken me until now to get up off my ass and do something about it.

I bought a bike, and ive been doing up 20 mile rides every other day (im on the ship now so no cycling for a month)

Ive combined my love of photography with this and the cycling has allowed me to venture out to places / ruins etc to take some fantastic shots.

Best of both worlds imo. Dont know why I didnt do this sooner! I can also see the cycling becoming a real hobby so all in all im feeling more motivated and more healthy!

So several months down the road are you still doing anything?

To be honest the bike is away for the winter and I've stopped exercising. Feel like crap and need to do more and feel fit again

thought I'd post more of a detailed post as done that one last night when i was half asleep.

The bike was put away last month for the winter. I dont enjoying cycling in the cold and pissing rain (Unusual for a scotsman!) - and taking photos when the weather is pissing down aint fun. Now that the wife is expecting, we did go swimming last week and I managed 10 lengths of an olympic size swimming pool, not all in one go - and I felt very out of breath and struggled with it - but i was determined to do the 10 lengths.

We havent been back since, but we do plan to start going more often when im home from sea in a months time. Weather permitting I will try and get on the treadmill even if it is for a 15min brisk walk each day on the ship - however it is pretty difficult to keep balance when the ship is rolling like a cunt in winter north sea weather!

Baby is due in 5 months so im hoping when it comes along it will give me the boost i need, and no doubt i will lose weight just by looking after it and running around after it. Im getting out of breath walking up and down our stairs in our house, they are fairly steep stairs, not like a normal house but that is no excuse.

Every day i worry about heart attacks etc and i hope that doesnt happen to me, just paranoid i guess.

Heres to 2015 and a new.... new fresh start. I felt 2014 was all about making a baby and the worries that went along with that - it diverted my focus away from getting out on the bike. Hoping this little one with give me a kick up the arse

Sorry mate but your detailed post just reads like a catalogue of excuses. Once the baby is there you will have far less time and motivation.

I think it is just lack of motivation :-( I don't enjoy exercise like others do. I know it necessary but for me giving myself the motivation to get into a REGULAR routine is hard

Would it not just be easier to lift free weights for fat loss? And if you need cardio, just lift weights faster. No gym membership/leaving-the-house needed.

Once the baby arrives you won't suddenly start losing weight or be motivated. Anyone overweight that I've known only seem to put on after a baby, rather than drastically lose.

Heavy lifting for 20-30 mins 2-3 times a week and the fat will drop off.

When I'm offshore I am pretty active every day and I do lose about a stone in weight every other month. It's just when I'm home I tend to relax more and eat better than I would at sea so I put the weight back on.

At the moment I'm 29 and 15st 13lbs, by the time I come home in 4 weeks I'll be about 15st ish

Depends how tall you are. If you're 6'4. Then 15 stone doesn't sound too bad.

Does anybody do any climbing? Indoor or out, Its a great workout, go with people you know, gets the adrenalin going, and I reckon so much better than any gym.

As winters coming, indoor climbing is a great way to go.

I climb indoors at a place called The Reach in south London.

It's great for exercise and also good socially to meet people.

Posted this a year ago and still 16 stone. Lowest I've dropped to is 14:9 l out it all back on over Xmas though.

Went to a gym the other day for a look around, for £35 a month I can use the gym anytime I want, use all the sauna equipment and attend any of their classes for free

Dropped my sugar in my tea to one spoon now. Don't have the motivation for exercise and I don't enjoy it but I have to get a change of mindset or something :-(
