Ummmm, I didnt know you could pick up virus' on Android tabs but would probably suggest flashing the unit back to factory settings and start afresh. As far as I know the various virus checkers don't run checks and repairs the same way a Windows computer would. I may be wrong mind! Look forward to hearing others thoughts.

Majority of malware on Android is focused on stealing your information, the worst case scenario at the moment is malware that sends SMS messages to premium rate numbers.
It is dangerous but you have to invite it onto your phone, It is not spreading by itself and, if you are sensible, you can avoid it without needing antivirus software.
Don't root, don't install apps from untrustworthy locations and you should be ok. If you are unrooted then removing the malware should be as simple as uninstalling the offending app.

I got the mrs a galaxy 3 tablet for Xmas, didn't even think about anti virus for it! Had a google and found that most people recommended avast free anti virus. Every scan I've done since shows the tablet hasn't got any nasties on it.
hope some of that helps mate!!

I use avast on my pc so I think ill take the avast route ...
I also use Avast, but not on my phone so much.
A virus on Android, is like a Virus on Linux. As mentioned, it's more Malware and ID Thieving Apps.
You could always use the proven, time trusted App we all do on our PC's too -

Well noted Rhinoz. I used to jailbreak when I was an Apple user, but now with Android being so open, I don't bother with my Nexus 7. Danger area's I've been in are downloading APK's but I've never had an issue and the device doesn't have a data connection (just wifi) so I dont think there is much risk?! Deleting the offending app should fix the issue but it would be interesting what virus's big3card encountered and where they came from?
I use bluebox security scanner and MBAM mobile, both free from play store. I don't have them running all the time, I just run them after I've installed something from an alternative source.
You should only install things from reputable sources anyway, if your googling and installing the first apk you come across then you are asking for trouble.
I always root my device but that's because I couldn't live without an ad blocker, this also helps keep malware at bay.
