    Default Digging Fence Posts

Which is the best tool for digging fence posts? An Auger, a shovel holer, a standard shovel ?

    Auger - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Faithfull-Po.../dp/B0001IWTRS

    Shovel holer - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-Exper...f=pd_sim_diy_7

You may call them something different. So I thought the links would help.

I mean, I could hire one of these. But.... I am only digging out 10 posts max. - http://www.hss.com/g/62756/Hydraulic...ole-Borer.html

At the moment I am leaning towards the auger.

I used an Auger for my fence in summer was spot on kept hole right size and just held posts in place while mate poured post mix then let them set checking they were square after about a minute

we dug 25 1ft holes and found it no trouble other than where had the odd heavy tree root but axe sorted those

paid £20 for a blue sealey one at local merchants

I suppose it depends partly on the ground conditions and how deep you need to go.

    I'd prefer something like http://www.constructionweekonline.co...skid-steer.jpg

I used a 'holer' when digging the foundations for my Decking. Fucking hard work, but far easier than a shovel. That Auger looks worse!

Is it just me that spotted the design flaw with this one?

soft shites get some manual work done, mostly dense soil here with some clay took no more than ten mins a hole though

Border terrier will do the job. Just tell it there's a rat down there and you'll be done in no time.... and... it'll only cost you a box of Bob Martins.

No point in digging a large hole if the correct tool costs £30 and saves a few hours of toil.
