I THINK I have previously read that iPads have hardware protection form viruses.. Something about the main OS being protected. However, I know there is apparent malware for smart phones with the Google OS.
has anyone heard of iPad viruses?

iOS is a closed OS, apple check each app before it reaches the App Store. App Store Apps have limited access to the OS so it's hard for them to affect you. Afaik there is no AV app for iOS.
if you jailbreak then you would be susceptible to malware and I think there are some apps in cydia for protection but I wouldn't worry too much about malware on iOS just yet.
Good to hear. So, all these recent warnings of malware being installed if you clicked on ads at yahoo or other places... iPad is immune. Great. Thanks.
At the moment that is the case but don't take it for granted. There have been user land exploits used for jailbreaking (PDF exploits for example). I'm not sure if these can be used to launch malware but they would have to program malware for iOS as it's a completely different platform than windows.
