Default Weekend in London to see a show?

Following on from my thread here about weekends away in the UK - http://www.digital-forums.com/showth...dations-please does anyone have any recommendations for companies that do all in one theatre break packages?

We'd need train travel from Newcastle, a hotel for 1 or 2 nights, and show tickets too, loads of websites but has anyone used one that they can recommend? Cheers.

Sounds easy to do yourself mate. Trains are standard and hotels are standard, just get yourself some tickets around haymarket and job's a goodun. I mean book into a theatre around haymarket, not turn up and buy. Go to a matinee and then you're clear to reserve a table for eats in the evening.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

True, guess I'm just being lazy though, lol!

I'll compare prices doing it myself and going through an all in one website, see what the difference is.

Do it yourself. At least you get to choose train times etc. My only advice would be to choose a nice hotel, soe of the "secret" ones turn out to be extremely good.

Thanks for the replies. Don't think the Mrs would be too bothered which show it was, she just wants to go to London to see something as she's never been before, am I safe to assume that tkts will always have tickets for something? Hate to get down there and for every show to be sold out, she'd kill me, lol!

There's a ticket booth in Piccadilly tube station that has tickets for every show all the time. They also have special offers sometimes too.

Yeah, the packages I've been looking at are coming up at around £500, although so far, booking everything individually doesn't seem to be too much cheaper, around £200 return on the train, at least £100 for accommodation with breakfast, and around £100 for tickets, signed up to be notified when cheap train tickets go on sale, so I'll take it from there.

Book a hotel just outside of the capital and you'll save bundles, travel in London is easy via tube/bus just make sure you buy a Oyster card and top it up otherwise fares are disgusting.

As suggested there are loads of shops and kiosks around town selling tickets cheap, one in the old hippodrome on Leicester Square is good.

    Thanks to Ashley

Get a family railcard for travel it costs £30 and you get a discount every time you book tickets.

We where going to London in December last year we got quoted £550 for 3 adults and 2 kids. Got the railcard and the tickets where only £325 saved us £225 for a purchase of a £30 ticket.

Look at booking an apartment suite instead of a hotel also this may be a cheaper alternative too or try staying wembeley area too it's only something like 14 minutes on the tube and they run every 3/4 minutes too

I suggest getting down here first. Then find a place to crash.
Hotels-a-plenty and just turning up will get you a better deal.
If you pre-book, it'll cost you a small fortune.

Do everything on-the-fly and you'll save bundles - If things get tight, their is always a Premier Inn and they've improved loads of the last few years and then you could make a long weekend of it.

Plus, instead of a show, you might want to consider the London Eye / Madame Tussauds / London Dungeon / A Museum / Shopping in Knightsbridge / Stroll along The Mall.

    --edit
One of the closest Hotels to the London Eye (Premier Inn). From £69 per night.

If you dont give a toss where in London you stay (Underground is great). Use Laterooms.com and book a couple of days before you go.

first thing I would do if going down to London by train find out what weekends there are big engineering works on the railway,
go into the booking centre they should be able to help you,
you don't want to be struck on a train for hours just because you don't check

    Thanks to rusty

Some of you might think this is a bit underhanded but if you complain about the service on the train when you go down they always chuck you a set of free tickets - I complained about the air conditioning not working in my carriage when I went down to Gatwick from Newcastle last summer (actually emailed the complaint from my phone on the way, by the time I was in Gatwick I had an email back offering me 4 free tickets whenever I wanted!) and yes it was genuinely hot in the train.

So Im off down there this Friday with the Girlfriend to see Wicked at the Apollo theatre - got seats 10 rows from the front for £65 each including booking fee and we r staying 5 mins walk away from Covent garden in the KingsWay hall Hotel in a Executive room which costs just under £170 per night (staying 2 nights) wouldn't normally stay in an upgraded room but we aren't having to pay for rail travel so may as well.
Rail costs are a pisstake so I don't feel bad about complaining and I recommend anyone and everyone do it - if your sat with drunks in your carriage -complain if your toilet isnt clean -complain - if some twat sits in your reserved seat - complain - you`ll get free tickets every time.

    2 Thanks given to MoNkFiSh

The key time to book train tickets is twelve weeks (to the day, if possible) before you plan to travel. That's when the cheaper tickets are released. Register with tie out london and amazon (using London as a location), along with groupon as there are often show tickets on there for decent prices. As mentioned above, lastminute can offer some good deals, I have also done well out of expedia too.

We have central rooms from £69 including London County Hall next to the London Eye, and London City, just a few minutes to the Tower of London for £59. Or stay a little further downriver in London Docklands from only £39 or enjoy the shopping in Stratford from only £49.
just had this from prem inn
