Tech Replacing my Revo with a real Plex/XBMC System.

The Revo is a cracking HTPC and has served me well over the years, but I find myself wanting more and more and it's time for me to upgrade the little fella to a big boys systems, hopefully without the astronomical cost.
I'll keep my 2nd Revo in the Bedroom for now.

Looking around just for a case has proven painful. The Chinese & Americans have far more choice than we do.
I know I want it Black, in brushed aluminium and without the need for a Keyboard and Mouse. It's got to look nice so I can show off to my mates). The prices of some of the ones I've seen are in the hundreds - which is ridiculous.

My first choice was the Jonsbo G2 in Black as it has the LED display on the front, but as I hunted I realised it was almost impossible to get shipped here (buy 500+ only from Alibaba) and the LED would start to annoy me in the end - its available here in Silver, but who wants silver? I eventually found the Jonsbo S1 with an included Jonsbo Mulimedia remote for £67 that integrates itself with the Front Panel connector, meaning it can completely shutdown and turn on the HTPC via remote.

Any recommendations appreciated, but remember, I want to try and keep the cost down as much as possible.

I've also sourced (free!) an ASUS P8H61-MX R2.0 Motherboard with an Intel Celeron® Processor G550 (2M Cache, 2.60 GHz).
I'd like to upgrade the CPU to an i5 or i7, but at the prices I've seen them, I can't warrant it to the missus at the moment.

This mobo has no onboard HDMI, so I'll also be in need of a low profile HDMI GPU PCIe Card. Suggestions?
    --edit
Maybe something like this, which includes 7.1 Sound Output via HDMI (what is it called when a GPU supports sound via HDMI - I forget?!)

Definitely investing in 2x4GB DDR3 as its cheap enough nowadays.

Will update this thread with pictures as I progress (not in no major rush) and if you have anything I may need or could be interested in, please let me know - in this thread - and then post it in the BST.

Be good to know the cost of this, when you finish. Including the cost of any freebies.

    Thanks to Geko

Will be watching this with interest. I'm using Plex for now as I've aquired a i7 MacBook which is just sat behind the sofa as my PMS. What do you want to do that the Revo can't at the moment?

The Revo is great, but it just hasn't the oompth that others have. You can't use the complicated skins because it struggles, or you'll be half way through browsing and it'll suddenly 'Black X' out. It has it's flaws, but I just think personally, I've grown out of it.

Install Aeon MQ5. It brings the Revo to it's knees.

As I said, the Revo is great (I've got 2x R3700 4GB versions), but it's still only an Atom with a low end ION GP. I just want more 'oomph'.

The Revos can't handle MQ5 at all? Or it freezes on occasion?

Let's see....so....I know!! .. . I just WON'T install MQ5. . . .I'd never even heard of it until now, running Macs for the last 5-6 years cured me of my predilection to fiddle!! although I did upgrade my 3700 to 8gig Ram..

I'm running Openelec/PHT on them both now.

MQ5 on mine took ages to load different sections. But there again, my sections are quite... er... Massive. I'm bit of a media hoarder. Confluence was a lot quicker and had to stick with that.

Get all the fanarts/logos/media that goes with MQ5 and you might see what I mean.

Sweet mother of someone or another.

Cheers to almost everyone. A lot to look at hear and everything at a much more cost effective solution than I thought reasonably possible.

    Cheers.....Q

I'll try it with the logos and buts but I've got 500 films and it loaded about the same speed as the other skins

I'm running xbox live though maybe that's the difference
