Top Graphics cards on the cheap...

Hi there DFs

I am after a graphics card for a desktop PC that I will be building in the next month.

It is obviously to play games with in as high as possible settings.

I have yet to buy my pc components but will be buying them from scan in the next couple of weeks. I was going down the AMD route for cost - and I am going to be using it mostly for virtualisation - running hopefully 5-8 VMs with Windows as host. But for some downtime I would play some games on it (with the VMs off of course) so was thinking of buying an older 2nd hand GPU. The motherboards don't come with VGA/DVI/HDMI so i need a video card of some fashion. If i was buying Intel they mostly seem to have VGA/DVI/HDMI built in to them.

My last GPU was an ATI Radeon 1900XTX! I reckon that was about 8 years ago now - before my xbox 360 anyway! These are rare!

I plan on playing COD Ghosts/RomeTW/Football Manager that kind of thing.

Since I last looked - the best GPU was the Nvidia 8800 GTX - these are around £50 on ebay - does anyone else recommend anything decent perhaps something slightly newer / cheaper ? I suppose my budget would be approx £60.

You should be able to pick up a HD 6850 for that sort of money. It's quicker, cheaper to run & unlike the 8800GTX, it has Dx11 support.

A GTX 550 Ti is around £50. and it supports DX11
