Question Time warner cable tv Filter Hack?

So i have a cable box in the front yard. Its not locked. I removed this filter and drilled a hole all the way through it and fished in a cable so it looks like the filter is in use. Its been like this for a year. Last week the cable company removed it.

Do they do a ping from the home office and notice that the filter isn't working? If this is the case, if I do this again, and create a splitter inside the house with a filter on one end of the cable, would it send the signal back to the cable company confirming a filter is in place?

Or since this filter is giving off a frequency, is there another filter that will boost the frequency and give me more basic channels?

    Any feedback?
