Question What is the best way to optimise images for the web?

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently sorting out the SEO on my website and I am currently trying to figure out the best way to do it? Fifty plus images need loosely compressing, whatever that is?

Is Google referring to server side or the actual individual images that it has listed needing sorting.

What is the best way to optimise these images for my website images; jpeg, gif and png? Should it be done individually or in bulk?

Obviously quality needs to remain high.

    Thanks

Google is probably judging your images dimensions by the filesize and thinks they are too big.
Photoshop can optimise these for your easy enough. You'll probably find a number of online tools that can do it for you.

Personally, I prefer PNG 24Bit as it's capable of perfect transparency with minimal lose in quality whilst keeping the filesize optimised small enough for the net.

Post one up and I'll see if I can optimise it for you. (Or PM, whichever you prefer).

    Thanks to DejaVu

For batch processing images I have always used FastStone photo resizer which has always worked well for me. It has a simple mode and an advanced mode for extra control over the final outcome. Its free for home use. For one off images or images with a transparency layer I use Photoshop. (">
