Well that's because you are not used to people being polite and nice to each other for no reason whatsoever.

This isn't a dig it's something i've observed while living in the USA for so many years. I live in the south so EVERYONE is like that and it rubs off on you. Whenever I visit the UK i think everyone is just a rude fucker.

I had a cousin that visited and she thought everyone was taking the piss all the time - she didn't get that they were being genuine.
