Help Laptop Issue - Charging but batter continues to drain

Hi I been given a laptop to fix. its a Toshiba C855

When you put it on charge the Laptop says its charging OK (the batter has the Plug thru it) but the percentage battery charge goes down not up. I have tested the volts from the charger and its giving out 19v so not under feeding. My Guess is that the battery on its way out but don't want to fork out on a new one on a whim.

    Any Ideas?

What is the battery info/health in the bios
What is the wattage of the AC in the bios.

    Battery only ?
    AC only ?
    Also different AC?

Sounds about right battery's only last about a year

    Thanks to TotallyRandom

I have ordered a battery and a AC but I did some testing last night I stripped it down and tested the power connector and it was showing 19V I tested the battery charging terminal and there was minimal voltage so looks like it might be some poor soldering from connector to terminal but as say I bit the bullet and ordered new charger and Batt and will try them first else it will be a new MB.

prob the battery or could be a motherboard fault, one of the Toshiba's had a cap that failed other models had a fuse and fet that sometimes blew, if the batt don't sort it post back and I will have a look through my notes.

    2 Thanks given to ozy

Yeah I had it stripped down and tested the power on the jack going into the MOBO (the white connector) and that's was showing 19v as I thought it would be a nice little earner if it was just the power jack connector ;-)

Does it ever crash when you plug / unplug the psu ?
as said there's a component under the processor that's liable to fail on some tosh laptops .
tokin Capacitor pac ,and it can be replaced with 4 420uf smd caps .

    Thanks to plug1

Battery life expectancy can alter quite dramatically depending upon how it has been maintained.
The battery in my Tosh (R630-155) will be 3 years old next month and still has a reported health of 91%, which sounds about right given it still makes over 6 hours on a single charge.

I put a new battery in but it does seem that the charging power is not getting to the battery terminals so does look like a onboard fuse has blown :-(
