So I have been given a n540 for my bday but don't have any hdd's for it.
ideally I would love two 4tb drives but budget is an issue so Looking for two wd 2tb drives.
Budget would be approx £70 per drive.
thank you.

Funnily enough I've ordered a WD 3TB Red for mine last night. According to the guys here although the spec states a 2TB max several people have no problems with the 3TB drives - Maybe an option ?

How much was it fella?

I only had a quick glance as wanted to order whilst I'd decided I could justify it this month.. DABS and Scan both selling then at 97 / 99 notes. so per TB comes under your budget
My plan is migrate the data of a Readygear NAS box i've got with a small concern over disc status and then look at getting a drive per month and my RAID options later.

Sounds like a good plan I was looking at adding 4 2tb reds but as 3tb are a go then I may do the same and get one per month until I get to 4.

There's several threads on here about drives ..including the peril of getting cheaper options.
Yeah I have had bad experiences with hdd's so I'm sticking to wd reds.
at least they have 3yr warranty and I'm hoping I'll never have to use it.

I know its not what you were asking but this is handy

Also 3tb reds were on amazon for around £90 each
I'm running some Samsung HD204UI non NAS drives in one of my Microservers - they're currently all running at almost 27000 hours - i.e. over three years continuous service and they're still going! Had two glitch after a reboot with pending sectors but a full erase sorted them out again - as daft as it sounds ideally you want a backup of even something sat on a RAID set as the odds of a second drive failing during a rebuild is high!
Also daft as it sounds don't order all your drives together as potentially you could always get a dodgy batch and lose the lot.
