what software are you using for printing, if you are using windows own preview window to print i have found it all ways print dark both with my epson photo 1400, R285 & my a3 brother printer.
doh i just finished reading the rest of the post, i would say its M/s photo viewer, try using Epsons own photo print software instead of direct from the printer

Right, so that means it's the printer rather than the software. Have you done an alignment test that prints the individual colours to check they're all coming out ok?

Or that the printer is correct and the monitor needs calibrating.

When you say printed from memory stick is that plugging memory stick into printer and using the printers LCD to print, I.e. not using the computer at all?
I'd say it may be down to using an incorrect profile, not sure exactly how to change it with that particular printer but when you use Photoshop try changing the print settings in the printer profile to off and use photoshops profile instead. If that still makes no difference at least its ruled the profiles out, also make sure you have the correct paper type selected as that does make quite a difference.

cheers everyone, it is actually the settings in cs6 there is a tut on it, you also need to disable colour matching in the printer driver, sorted now, I thought the days of this shit were long gone apparently not, keeps you sharp though doesn't it. lol
