    moan Photo Competition

Well, it wasn't very difficult to pick this month's winner as there was only one entry!!!

I know people are busy and probably post there pics on a more dedicated photo forum so I'm wondering if people want the monthly comp to continue or shall we 'knock it on the head'...?

    Opinions/thoughts please.

Well I was just about to come and post my entry, so you could have had 2!

maybe just make it open every month, certain categories seem to reduce the number of entries. If there was a pop up reminder of the impending deadline when I log into DF i would certainly have entered more times.

I think that's a good suggestion, an open theme might encourage more entries. The photo section used to be buzzing a few years ago but it seems a lot of the photographers have moved on. I remember Bertroot saying that its a bit of a pain to set up the competition each month when Mr O was ill so if the number of entries doesn't increase then it might be worth just closing. Maybe if we have a minimum number of entries going forward or the comp closes might encourage more people to enter.

    Thanks to liveseytowers

It's been a while since I posted an entry in for the comp, or a photo in the section tbh, but totally appreciate the work Mr O has put into the comp over the years, can't have been easy having to do this each month as well as check everyone's EXIF's each time to make sure they were within the rules, so thanks Mr O for all your hard work.

As for should it continue, there's always been months where there's been a drought of entries (although never recall a month when there was just 1 before ). As suggested, making it open always encourages more entries, although only issue with that I guess is you'll get people who are very good at a certain genre of photography just posting same things all the time.

If you're looking to take a break from it then perhaps someone else could take over, there's a few people who are very active in here who could run the comp for a while perhaps?

Whatever you decide, thanks for keeping the comp going so long mate.

I wonder if part of this is the 'February factor'? The month is only two days shorter than normal, but couple that with people's perception that January is a seemingly endless month of waiting for payday and not boozing, February seems to go by in a flash. This month ends on Friday and it feels like it only just begun!

So I call anomaly. Please continue with the comp, I like voting

Lets not forget the weather as well, there wasn't hardly a dry weekend in Feb so not many people would be out with their cameras.

Maybe lower the frequency from 1 to 3 months? Thus do it seasonally? It would definately be better if we could offer some sort of prize as well... If only annually. IE: Winner and Runner Up from each season get put together for an annual prize.

January had six entries (I seem to recall), February only one.
I do think it is the February factor as mentioned. Changing the frequency from 1 to 3 months would probably kill it off completely for most. You would not see anything until the last few weeks and that is only if people remembered.

If we had a vote I would vote to keep it as is. I do try to get an entry submitted and when I cannot I do enjoy seeing the talented work of others.

trouble with February is nothings happening, all work and no play, crap weather this year has reduced my time outside to an absolute minimum, haven't even got down to the local park to see if anythings budding yet, March is infinitely better for inspiration, and inspiration is something we all need
