    Default Slingbox

Any good? I am looking for a solution to send content around the house to other TV's and iPads etc.
Outside the home is a bonus but not essential.

Is their an alternative to Slingbox?

It would have to be HDMI in and have a pass through, from the new models I see only the 500 does that as the 350 is component only.

    Cheers.

I have a dm800hd satellite receiver and can watch anywhere in the house over wifi on my iphone using a cheap app called iStreamGate.

With regards to slingbox my mate at work had one a few years ago and could watch tv at work on his mobile from the receiver at home, move between satellites etc. it was very good.

It is almost like I can hear the "I told you so" of someone in the background....
We all have to start somewhere and the F5s is a great piece for the price. I now want a bit extra so upgrade we shall do. Got a mate who is about to embark on the F5s adventure so I will give him my cast off.

Cheers.. Now to look for a good deal.

There are newer ones which I think will work with iStreamGate too, enigma 2 based. VU duo for example.

I started off with a Slingbox Solo which was SD only, then moved onto IPTV streaming and now I'm currently running a Cloud Ibox 2 which is an Enigma box - basically the Enigma stuff pisses all over the Slingbox from a great height and ironically costs less! The first one is a clone of the Vu Solo, this is an XP1000 clone and the newer versions are a clone of something else. I wouldn't personally spunk a lot of money on a genuine box right now as I keep hearing changes are afoot, and so a clone does me for now. I really want a Vu Duo with the VFD display though as it looks an awesome bit of kit.

Picture quality is miles better than Slingbox (you're getting the raw stream so it's the same quality you get on the TV), and the biggest issue with the Slingbox was the time it took to change channels etc - it was a proper mission - with this you can get dedicated apps that access the bouquet on the box and off you go. I personally use Blackbox or Enigma2 Light on the iPhone.

    Thanks to reverend

I got an enigma 2 box , VU+ Solo (clone), got it from Hong Kong and it was about £70 quid delivered, came in a week too.
I know some people say avoid clones but I have had no trouble.

Yeah, seems people are trying to put it onto them... I am not messing with that.

Sounds like a clone might be the way to go.

I just picked this one up from a shop on eBay for £79 - it needed the resistor fix doing like a lot of Cloud Ibox 2s do, but I'm just using a solder bridge for now.

If it lasts six months I'll be happy - if Sky decided to turn the streaming functionality on in their boxes that would be great, but I guess they've got all the content providers to keep happy.

    Thanks to reverend

Looking around it seems the VU+ Duo is the way to go (Reverend tell me I am wrong). A clone would be the obvious choice for price as we know the life of marine mammals might not last for ever.
I have two feeds coming in but one goes to my TV (Freesat), do the boxes have pass through for Sat? It is no big deal, if not I would just use the singlesignal to it.
The main thing that interests me is a better looking EPG for the Wife so it gets used and the streaming to the iPads etc..

Question on the streaming.. Does the Box have to be on the channel or can you watch one channel on the TV and a different one on the iPad when streaming? I guess you need both connections in for this if you can?

They usually do have a pass through but it's not really for using the same signal for two receivers at the same time. Technically you can do it if both channels you want to watch on the separate receivers are the same polarity. If you know you're going to be watching one or the other (but not both) then the pass through will be ok for your needs.

On watching/streaming: with a single tuner you can only do this if the two channels are on the same multiplex. A way of explaining this is also that on a single tuner you can record one channel and watch a different channel on the multiplex. When a recording is being made then the channel list shows white channels on the same multiplex and grey for all of the rest (i.e. It shows which ones you can choose).

Head funk?? Right I will go for a dual tuner one.
I noticed now you can get VU+ Solo Twin Tuners. The only difference I see to a Duo is it only has one card slot. I won't be using the card slot so it looks like I might go for that.

Did some digging, I think I am going to try a VU Duo Mini - £100 delivered from Hongkers.

Thanks for everyone's help, think I have dished out the Thanks. I know these threads keep coming up, it is a minefield. Just hope I get enough use out of it!

Would that break any rules ??? They don't come out of the box with anything preloaded that would enable piracy or anything illegal !!
