    Default HP Microserver Turning off

    Guys,

Everyday when i get up my server is running away fine, When I return from work its off.

I am running Windows 7, can anyone think of a reason it would be shutting down during the day? when i press restart it says resuming windows, I've disabled automatic updates etc.

    Cheers

    Must be power settings.

go to power options in control panel and check to see if it's set to shut down / sleep after a certain period.

It's set to sleep after 360 minutes but still wakes on me moving mouse etc.

When I get home the normally green power light has turned orange and the things off.

Check screen saver settings as well and set everything to never go to sleep. You would expect it to wake if its gone to sleep, its when its hibernating you've got to press the button to wake it.

Sounds like it's hibernating, go to power options, set to performance and to never sleep. Might have to go into advanced power to turn off hibernate.

Check that the CPU heatsink isn't choked with dust and that the fan is running. Its running OK overnight when the central heating is usually off and the outside ambient is cooler, but shutting down in the day when the air warms up. Seen this before with a choked heatsink where a few degrees difference in the ambient air temperature can make the difference between the PC running OK and shutting down. (">

Another way to do this is fire up a command line as an administrator and run the following:

    powercfg.exe /hibernate off

    Thanks to reverend
