    Help repayment from HMRC

To my delight, i logged in to my hmrc portal today as i received a letter asking for me to submit my self assesment, upon logging on is last years which i somehow forgot about

    Anyway, it says

You have overpaid. £XXXX.00 is available for repayment.

so ive clicked the request a repayment and followed on screen instructions, and then was given this message

A repayment was requested recently and that request is currently being processed. This will take 48 hours after which you will be able to make a further repayment request if your account is in credit.

Anyone explain what happens now? and what is expected?

    thanks in advance

First things first mate, was it the genuine site? I'm always dubious by nature of these sort of things concerning the Government departments. Have you received any letters about this?

I rang my old CIS payroll providers as they never had my UTR number and was being taxed 30%, and confirmed things and also rang hmrc to verify my UTR number as my payroll provider wanted me to have it activated....

i can ring hmrc tomorrow but think I will be told
It can take x amount of time

If the cis shows up correctly on HMRC system (from the cis submission not your SA return) then the refund will normally come through in a few days. If the amount claimed on the return differs to the info provided by the contractor then it can get held up for further checks - may mean writing to them & providing proof etc.

If the CIS provider didn't have your UTR were they using your NI no at least so that it's trackable?
