I don't know why its always assumed things like this point to alien intervention etc.

While it's certainly impressive, its not impossible that with enough manpower this couldn't be achieved. Our ancestors weren't some stupid race of apes until we came along, in fact a lot of ancient thinkers/mathematicians etc put the modern general population to shame.

Sorry, was referring to the comments in the article, should have been clearer.

I definitely think there's ancient knowledge and ingenious techniques that have been lost.

Probably because there were quite a few blocks, weighing 3,000 tons, carried up a mountain and stacked with precision to form a 40 metre high wall.
Our ancestors were not stupid apes, but that is one hell of an achievement that even today we would struggle to recreate.

Exactly my point though, I think we should be impressed by their accomplishment rather than dismiss they couldn't have done it as some of those comments state.
