Info just been diagnosed with sleep apnea

so the day after my birthday i had to go to the hospital for what i thought was more follow up tests to be told i have sleep apnea. what a fucking stupid illness.
been feeling really tired for a while so went to the doctor a year or so ago and have now got my answer. wife was always moaning about me sleeping at night on the settee for no reason.
    any u got this?
so got my new sleeping partner for the rest of my life , look a bit like bain from batman, basicaly this machine keeps my airways open with air at night

after all the tests the result i stop breathing 27 times an hour do in the mid range.
if i drove hgv or lgv i would now lose my licence, but i just need to inform dvla about it as i am now under treatment. also on holiday the machine has to come on as hand luggage with a hospital letter!!!
so full face mask in bed from now on when im sleeping
i have had a machine home for the last 4 nights to find out and set up the pressure, so tonight is the first night with my own machine, has to be washed out 3-4 times a week, cold clean boiled water every day and hose, mask and filter clean once a week

Fuck me.... feel for you mate that can't be pleasant..
I assume it must restrict you being able to move about in bed ??????

Is it a permanent thing ??? Or might it sort itself out ?

    Thanks to macmilm

    You never know for sure....
I have a fairly rare blood disorder that is incurable / for life scenario... turns out that applies to the UK cos they know fuck all about it...
In the U.S of A they have entire clinics dedicated to it and many are treated to the point they don't need constant medical attention... e.g. can control by diet, therapy couple of times a year in hospital...

Obviously I have no idea if that is the case with Sleep Apnea, but I was shocked to find what I was being told and then discovered the opposite...
Also check out herbal chinese shit... again it may be of no help to you but it made a huge difference to my medical issues.... No cure but huge change to previous poor lifestyle !!

Just make sure before you make any major decisions you sleep on it !!! (I'll get my coat)

    Thanks to macmilm

Hopefully this will all have a positive knock on effect.

more sleep = more energy = more enthusiasm to exercise .

Bloody annoying though that it takes a year for the quacks to diagnose you.

You can get just the nose inserts on a cpap machine with NHS and they are less intrusive and much more comfortable.. if you think they might suit you better, just ask them.. also it's well worth using the humidifier if it has one as your mouth really dries out otherwise but I guess you will have discovered that

good advice about the humidifier. The team in the office next to me service these machines, but not the fisher&paykel. Cant get any masks etc, but I know where the filters are kept

I know a few people with sleep apnea. Never heard of it years ago. I wonder if this and a few other recently discovered conditions are related to our modern unhealthy lifestyle? One mate that has it isn't overweight but he does like his drink a little too much. Maybe the condition has always been around but was not properly understood? (">

Leo I have one too and you do get used to it, to the point where you will call the clinic and tell them it's not working anymore!
Mines set at 15 though it peaked at 19 through the testing stage.

I sleep far far better with it now and don't notice I'm using it anymore.
your machine is different to mine I'll post a picture ASAP but my humidifier clips on to the side.
when your wearing your mask I bet at some point you say "Luke I am your father" and "come to the dark side" it's all I said every time i got in bed for a month. Lol

if you have any questions just shout me mate I have been using mine for a few months now.

this is my machine looking down on it it's about as thick as four DVD cases so doesn't look as big as yours (let's not get pervy)
the humidifier is the same size again and that clips onto the side.
