Default Tim Boll v KUKA robot at table tennis

Table tennis star 'goes head-to-head with high-speed robot' – video

A high-speed robot is purported to go head-to-head with former world number one table tennis star Timo Boll. In a PR video filmed and edited for Kuka Robotics, which specialises in high-end industrial robots, the sportsman is said to be shown losing 6-0 in a fast and furious game until he eventually goes on to win the match by smashing the ball over the top of his opponent

I know this is PR bullshit and it doesn't show who or how the robot is being controlled etc but still pretty cool how it serves etc ;-)

(don't know how to embed video as not youtube?)

I've come across these machines in my last job. Paired with a decent vision system their pretty amazing. But just have taken weeks of programming to make it hit the ball with the right amount of force without it smashing the guy in the face or just defensively pouring the bat in the way of the ball

We got prob 15-20 weld robots at my work but nothing as impressive as these, if this demo was for a totally automated system then that's even more impressive but cant see it as you say it would of taken weeks to program. I would just say there's a person in the background and the robot is shadowing his arm movements or something

I would like to see it malfunction and slam the paddle in the chaps face. Now that would be more impressive
