    Attention Chromecast - £30

Who's got one? Came out yesterday.

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio/d...FaQfwwod1yoAbQ

At the moment it mainly allows you to use YouTube with your mobile as a remote control. But that functionality alone makes it £30 well spent for me, as typing in searches on the Xbox or TiVo is a right pain.

As more apps and hopefully games can be used with it, it should become a cracking device.

Just been to buy one with my mate who already has one from the US. Women at PC World said at the till your a bit late, they came out yesterday.... What a stupid thing to say? Was thrown straight back in her face.

I've got a shortage of HDMI ports or i'd have had one.

There's a mothers day offer on at Amazon where you connect to facebook and get a £5 voucher that you can use on anything over £30. I think someone posted it on here already.

I was really impressed with mine after buying last November from US, although there were only a handful of apps back then. Since then I've upgraded my tv to a samsung LCD and now seems a little redundant, as that has the ability to receive casts from quite a few apps
original intel macbook black 2006, macbook air 2011, PS3, XBOX360, nintendo wii, 3ds, psp, iphone 5 32gb, itouch 16gb, Vu+duo, Samsung TAB2, various laptops Ubuntu

I've had one for a while. It's not bad for Netflix. At first Youtube quality was awful, but it seems to have improved. It's also pretty good with Plex, which has just gone sub free for casting.

I have better options. But it was only £30. Probably give it to my parents, when I've stopped playing with it.

i work in currys and set one up the other day to demo there aint much you can do with it, from your device you can stream vevo, bbc iplayer, google music , you tube, plex but the app charges 1.98 unless you get it from other sources and netflix, at the min chromebooks can cast chrome to them and so can pcs and laptops not sure with apple as i dont have one i know they at least do you tube, they look good bits of kit shame they need to be plugged in by usb for power all the time but you can use a usb port on the tv. they are ment to be updateing the device to power from hdmi in the future but god knows, to me they are very good i have a now tv bow which does most of the things as i need as i dont use netflix and dont cast my browser page. i am tempted though as i can get one for 22.50 with staff discount lol. i think with kitkat 4.4 you can cast your android device so you can play retro games on your tv and stuff like that which for me would make it a defo purchase.

Google have big plans for it. I am happy to spend £30 on it. I have more expensive devices which do more... But it's not a bad piece of kit. Very good for the technophobic too. Piece of piss to setup.

    Thanks to Geko

Got a US one off Amazon last year. Left unused for a while then rooted it and then hardly used it since, having a preference for WDTV/Roku/Plex to watch grabbed content. Worked OK with limited number of apps when I had a play with it.
Hasn't stopped me getting a UK one from PCW tho'. Picking that up later today and will keep it official.

The problem is that any plans Goggle have for it will involve paying for content and that's not something I'm really used to.

Yup. I know. Have the Plex android app on my SGS3.
Have recently removed my WDTV and replaced it with my N40L with newly added Nvidia card. This runs PlexMS, Sab and SB and the Plex client. So no need to stream.

I have no need for another Chromecast but bought one anyway - just because.

@Fear345. Mine updated 1st time without problem. Factory reset might help.

(With the CC powered) Hold down the button (next to the micro USB port) on your Chromecast for at least 25 seconds or until the solid light begins flashing.
Then disconnect the USB power cable.
    Wait a few seconds.
    Connect the USB cable again.
This will factory reset Chromecast (factory data reset).

I bought one at the weekend. Reason being, my laptop which I used to watch stuff in the bedroom died a death and I've been looking for a cheap way to watch my downloads up there ever since.

Plugged it into the TV, nabbed Plex on my iPad for best part of 3 quid and I must say it's a revelation! Was happily streaming 1080p files (with a little loss in quality, but fuck it, tis in bed viewing!) from the PC downstairs with no problems. Using the iPad as a remote. Plex is also awesome. Love how it recognised all my 'purchased' movies and TV shows. Sorting them all with pictures, synopses' and even reviews!

I'm sure there are plenty of better options out there, but for a total of £32.99, I'm pretty damn impressed and can't recommend it enough!
