Default Aintree Top Trainers AND Aintree top jockeys

    Aintree Top Trainers:

Paul Nicholls has been the most successful trainer over the last five years and with horses like Denman, Kauto Star and Master Minded it’s not that surprising. What is surprising is that the man who has been dominating National Hunt racing in recent years has only won the Grand National once, with Neptune Collonges in 2012.
Welsh trainer Peter Bowen has enjoyed plenty of success at Aintree and his Always Waining has won over the big fences three times when landing the Topham Chase, he always has lots of runners here. Nicky Henderson tends to bring one or two of his Cheltenham stars here for the National meeting and is always worth keeping an eye on.
Although the Irish trainers don’t appear in the table the likes of Willie Mullins, Ted Walsh and Dessie Hughes often have a crack at the National and one or two other big races. The Irish have won the Grand National four times since 2000 the latest being Silver Birch in 2007 who was trained by Gordon Elliott.

    Trainer Wins/Runs SR % £+ / -
    Paul Nicholls 22-154 14 -61.61
    Peter Bowen 18-111 16 +111.80
    Nicky Henderson 16-111 14 +9.66
    Nigel Twiston-Davies 14-122 11 -20.50
    Alan King 13-104 13 -37.62

    Top Jockeys At Aintree

Ruby Walsh is the most successful jockey at Aintree currently, in the last 5 years he has ridden 21 winners mainly for his old boss Paul Nicholls although his two National winners were for Irish trainers. Walsh now rides mainly in Ireland for Willie Mullins.
In 2011 Tony McCoy finally won the National at his 15th attempt on Don’t Push It, as you can see by the stats he rides plenty of other winners at Aintree and is connected to the powerful owner JP McManus who provides most of his rides.
Other jockeys to note are Barry Geraghty who will have plenty of fancied rides for his trainer Nicky Henderson, Geraghty has won the National once on board Monty’s Pass. Choc Thornton hasn’t a great record in the National itself but has lots of success for trainer Alan King around this course and Richard Johnson is another top jockey yet to win the big race but also has his fare share of winner for his trainer Philip Hobbs.

    Below are the stats for the last 5 years at Aintree;

    Jockey Wins-Rides SR% £+/-
    Ruby Walsh 21-92 23 -8.36
    Tony McCoy 17-135 13 -27.13
    Paddy Brennan 14-120 12 -18.42
    Tom O'Brien 12-79 15 +1.18
    Robert Thornton 11-93 12% -38.82
