    Default Htc Desire, my review

My last 4 phone4s have been

htc touch, a nice little phone probably one the first smart phones, it ran windows very slowly, was a bit complicated and took a bit of getting used to, a nice big screen for those days, the copy and paste being its main asset for me, wifi was mediocore but in them days a new thing and done the job, overall i liked it, when i came to upgrade couldnt give it away as it was to complicated no one wanted it....

htc touch hd, a total bag of shit, it was big heavy like carrying a 40 inch plasma around, it was dog slow, also ran windows which it did quite smoothly better than the touch, the screen was big and very crisp wouldnt show pics to the full size though, voice didnt wotk well powerpoint was shite, struggled to view big galleries, was glad to get rid after a year, fetched good money on ebay though....

htc hero, what went on here i dont know, what a trasformation, probably down to android, the hero was just pocket sized and great in the hand, screen was clear and crisp and after the other 2 lightening fast, browsing on wifi was a pleasure reasonably fast, pinch zoom was a dream, as for customising it was endless 7 pages to do anything you wanted with, plenty of apps, email was easy to set up along with most things (took days on the other two), viewing df on it was quite fast and bearable (impossible on the other two) youtube a pleasure, thoroughly enjoyed the phone and had no problem hanging on to it.

htc desire, wow what a phone, again android, had it a couple of days now this thing is seriously fast everything is instant, browsing is not much different than my laptop, it is quite light and thinner than the hero, the screen is very responsive and crystal clear flash sites are no problem, navigating isnt a problem as the icons, are bigger than usual, the camera has a lot of functions aswel including a flash, viewing big galleries isnt a problem vid and pics, people and contacts lists you can do so much you get sick of looking, , it also saves favourite web page as thumb nails same as the hero which is very good, typing seems to be a lot better aswell, everything i use most i am happy with, the main thing with android is customisation, you can have the phones seven screens totally blank and start from scratch exactly the way you want it, no forced menus and useless icons, will dig a bit deeper over the next week see what comes up and will post here...

I've just got mine, like you only had it a couple of days and I love it. I think, dare I say it, I even prefer to my iphone. I didn't think I'd say that about an Android device so soon after seeing some earlier models. Android market can't compare with the app store but for what I use my phone for, the apps do just fine.

I'm also loving stuff like Google Goggles, Google Sky, Latitude, Places Directory, Gesture Search and Google Maps Navigation and they are all free.

The integration with Google mail and Exchange is very good, Google Talk works a treat and even though I don't use Twitter/Facebook very much, the included apps for those look good too.

Hmmm my iPhone contract expires soon. Not sure whether to wait for the next iPhone release or give Android a spin...

Go for it freddy i'm sure you won't be dissapointed and someone put up a £25 12 month contract on here the other day so even if you don't like the desire (which i can't see) you won't have long to wait after the next iphone arrives.

That's true B.I.G. I personally think the iPhone is perfect (for me) but I'd hate to be blinkered and not at least give Android a run. I think the only thing that will stop me is that I'll be getting an iPad. It seems daft not to have an iPhone alongside it. The geek in me is torn here

I'll certainly do some reading on the Desire and seek reviews from peeps that have used both (and who loved the iPhone).

Can you use iTunes with Android (via 3rd party convertor obviously)? Over the years I've put a lot of work into getting my +30GB of music, videos in order and I would hate to lose that. I also listen to quite a few podcasts on a daily basis, so there would have to be a good desktop program that downloads and updates them.

But yeah, I could be ready to jump ship after owning 3 generations of iPhone

tried this the other day but it wouldn't install ended up having to download the full install rather than the web one the site points you at.

Haven't really had a play with it i just wanted to put the music off my touch onto the desire.

Wouldn't be thanking me just yet cj,just tried to reinstall it and windows stopped responding and I'm now in the process of doing a repair as it wouldn't boot up....I'm ironically posting this off my desire.

It seems to polarise opinion, the reviews seem to be very mixed from what I've read. Although, for those who do get it to work it seems like a very good solution.
