Rant Greggs - RIP (they haven't actually closed down though)

Greggs are RIP for me - I don't think I'll be going in there any more.

Not so long along - only a few years maybe, you used to be able to go in and get a baguette, pasty and sweet snack for maybe £3. Now you are looking at a fiver.

Coupled with that, the quality seems to have gone downhill - the sandwiches taste like cardboard with barely any fill in them now.

Even the famous sausage roll has lost its filthy, tranfatty flavour that was ideal for a hangover - such a tragedy. Plus I swear that the damn things increase by 2p ever time I go in. 80p now!!!

    Greggs RIP.

I always avoid the chains and go to my privately owned Bakers.

Cheese and onion pastie and a sausage roll for 99p in my Greggs sounds reasonable to me, i never buy their baguettes or drinks though, far too expensive.

Can't remember the last time I saw an independent. Only choice seems to be Gregg's or Percy Ingles which I reckon is definitely worse.

We have Coughlans in this area, a largish independent, even they are not what they used to be but better than Greggs that's for sure!

Greggs got me through college some 13 years ago, their sausage rolls were gorgeous. Popped in to one a couple years ago when I was in the UK to reminisce and I was fucking horrified firstly by the price and secondly by how shit it tasted.

    Never again.

They should close down, dirty shite.

It's not even a real bakers, more of a downmarket tearoom - in the polari sense.

I'm sure all the NE members will agree with mw that greggs was so much better when it was just greggs of gosforth before becoming the disgusting chain that it is now

Agree the "sausage meat" in the middle is sooooo processed it is untrue... I reckon the meat content in the filling is no higher than 20%... it's like fucking pate !!!

Luckily we had an independent bakers open up in town who does amazing sausage rolls for £1.25 ..... You would pay £2 happily they are that nice... actual pieces of distinguishable pork in em (from local outdoor bred farm)

Only use chains now really when I find I have no choice or time to find an alternative

A Greggs post, and also a cash converters post flump, you'll be asking which trackie bottoms can go the longest without needing to be washed next, innit.
