    Default National driver retraining course

Yep, busted by the five-o, drifting my whip on the strip at a blistering 42mph.

What's the score with these? Sit and be talked to and/or shown horrific videos etc? Or is it more drawn out than that?

    Cheers.

How do you qualify for these as opposed to getting points?

Insurers will not be informed by the police or local authority of your speed awareness course completion, so the onus is on you to inform them in good faith. This needs to be done by the renewal of your policy at the very latest.

So what they want is you to tell them so they can put your premium up but if you don't tell them they will never know.

do a few miles over the speed limit with either a gun or gatso. you get a choice when the speeding fine pops onto your door mat.
you only get 1 every couple of years and if you attend the course it costs you £70 or so for the privilege of not getting points on your licence and a premium to pay on the insurance.

    Ta mate.

Are you given any options for attendance days or anything? Was it local?

    Cheers.

Mine (this is going back 14 or so years) was a day and a half course. Part sit around watch vids spot potential hazards then out in a car where all they tell you to do is slow down (I was doing 60 on a dual carriageway and got told to slow down FFA...). In the comments box at the end I just put if you want to fine me more and not give me the points I'd rather you'd be honest about it and not waste people's time.

    Thanks to blacksheep
