Good question some animals a domesticated which means they have bonded to humans for survival other animals are bred for food and ironically that's how they survive as they get the protection the from humans this way.

They reckon that the cow would of been extinct years ago if it wasn't a food source for Humans and we protected them from other predators.

Is extinction worse than slaughter?

Personally - Given the choice of a stressful slaughter or never have being born. I'd take the latter.

And let's not pretend that the slaughter is not painful. I'd rather be a realist about it. I eat meat. I am valuing my indulgence of meat above the value of an animals life. But... I am not pretending to love animals while eating one.

I used I work with some Indians that were not only vegetarian but also would not eat vegetables that you had to kill the plant to eat. So things like carrots/potatoes were off limits! How fucked up is that!

Dogs show affection and like to spend time with people. Dogs eat meat. People are meat but dogs don't eat people... well not usually anyway. Our children are meat. We love our children. Even though we eat meat we don't eat our children... again there are exceptions to this rule.

Some animals are bred for their meat. Others have become human companions. There is a difference. I like animals in general but I thought the world of Taffy. not because he was an animal but because he was Taffy.

I for one agree with you M8.

I had a cat for 25 years and came home from work and she didn't answer to my calls so started to panic, grabbed a torch and she had a little house outside and found her dead in there.

I cried like a baby on the kitchen floor and the wife came home from work.

I had a dog put to sleep after a vet practice said it was a abscess on the jaw but another vet practice knocked him out and it turned out to be cancer of the jaw so he was put to sleep.

I know what its like to loose a family pet and all jokes aside its heart breaking.
