We've not heard from you for a while Brian. Are you sure your girlfriend Brenda didn't poison him? Bertroot misses you.

Very sorry for your loss.
Some, not all, people understand how devastating the loss of a dog can be but fail to realise that the loss of our smaller furry friends can be very upsetting. It depends on the relationship you have with your pet and how you generally feel about animals. About ten years ago my daughters hamster was almost four years old which is quite rare for a hamster. She was loosing her hair and her teeth had gone. She seemed happy enough and I kept her alive for months by purifying her food and making sure she was warm enough. One day I was lying back in a recliner and she was on my chest. I remember her suddenly looking up at me and then scampering over to my sleeve and she stopped breathing and she was gone. I'm not afraid to admit I was upset and did shed a tear. (">

Comiserations Brian.
It might seem like the end of the world now, but in time you will get over this.
Trust me, I know others like you with dead rats.

I'm sure Brenda didn't poison it as she was scared of my Rat and would never go near the cage and he was very old for a Rat and had not even been able to climb to the top of the cage for the last couple of months, he also got very fat and kept falling on his back and I had to go and turn him over as he couldn't do it himself.
Thank you for the kind words I am sure I will eventually get over the grief but at the moment it is very hard and hurts just like a punch in the stomach or a dead leg which I have a lot of experience of unfortunately.
I'm going to bury him later I need to find a box first, Anthony has a DS and all it's games in a nice box so I plan to empty that out and use it when he goes his dyslexia club later.
Thank you I am not sure if I will get another one as I am not sure I can take the heartbreak again.
Brian

sorry to hear you lost your pet mate, never nice
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

Brings a whole new meaning to "get yer rat out"

Sorry to hear this Brian.
Time is a great healer though; a few years ago I too had a pet rat. I was doing a spot of decorating in the room that the Ratty stayed in, so considerately moved his cage into the cellar for the duration.
I also used the cellar for storing various other items, namely old video games consoles, books, trainers and of course, DIY items, including the paint for the room I was decorating.
What I didn't realise, however, is that that my Ratty loved the smell of paint. So much so, in fact, he chewed out of his cage to investigate the open container, and of course, fell in, and subsequently died a horrendous painful (but nice smelling) death.
Actually, just typing that out has proved to me that time isn't a great healer at all :'(
Twitch the Hamster was buried in a nice wooden carved box placed beside the large Ash tree at the bottom of my garden. Along with two cats and a goldfish which I had for 8 years. Taffy the Border Collie has pride of place in a proper grave in the back lawn. I take care of my pets and non human companions when they are alive and after they pass away. Most of the items on the grave has some connection to the places we visited over the years. (">
As a grown man I cried in pets at home as my wife informed me my rabbit had to be put to sleep.
so I don't think your sad at all.
animals understand human emotions some more than others.
