Since day one I have always had at least one Plextor drive because of the formats they support (CD+G for example) but one did fail with me after around 9 months. The other Plextor which I purchased at the same time has been going well for about 3 years. Amazon didn't have a Plex to replace the faulty drive so had a refund and went for a Samsung which I can't fault after two years use. (">

My Mrs bought me a £10 external DVD Burner that connects via USB. Works absolutely fine for burning MP3 CDs and the odd actual DVD. Was about £10-£15 I think?

You probably couldn't go wrong with the Samsungs or LiteOns mate, they're all as cheap as chips these days

I always get the Samsung drives that are under £15 for my builds, I don't burn a great deal nowadays though, just occasional data when recovering from drives.

I would go for a external USB version, more and more laptops don't have drives nowadays and this gives you the option to use on more than one device.

Its better to burn out than to fade away...............

There was a time I wouldn't have considered Samsung but many people now rate their Tv's higher than Panasonic. Got two Samsung TV's in the house and I'm just about to purchase a new microwave and it looks like it will be a samsung. (">

If you can afford the extra get a bluray writer. http://www.saverstore.com/productlis...cat=BLUERAYINT
You are a bit more future proofed and Blurays are not too bad as a backup medium for your videos etc. The LG is pretty good and not a bad price. Depends if you are opting for cheap DVD writer replacement or fancy pushing the boat out a bit more.

It's for burning 'backup' dvds so don't really need bluray but will look at it.. :-)

I swear by the LiteOn iHAS series and have done for a while (Overburning is great!), mines the 624.

I also own a Pioneer DVDRW Drive that has burned hundreds of DVD's/CD's for me without a single coaster (even with cheapo DVD's) and is still going strong today. It's over 3 years old!

Both support Dual Layer DVD's too.
If I was in need of replacing either of my drives, personally I would consider looking towards a Blue-Ray Writer these days, but I'll cross that bridge once one of my Drives fail.

any dvd burner would do to be fair, I just had my pants pulled down on a sony for the overburn feature as I couldnt get my hands on a ihas, for dvd movies its easy pickings. find a bargain and jump right in

Pioneer was always the one to go for but not heard about them much recently. Don't Blu-ray lasers die pretty quickly?
