Help N54l & Server 2012 help with rdp license and joining a domain.

I have been using rdp to connect to my hp n54 server but I'm getting a licence nag screen and can't seem to resolve it.

    Any ideas lads?
i have also got team viewer installed so if there's a buff that may have some advice on joining a domain for external access, maybe teamviewer into it and give it a quick polish

Not sure if I can actually do it or not but can I use a sub domain example www.server.teajunkie.co.uk
    if so how?

It looks like you've got the RD Session Host role enabled mate - just remove that via Server Manager and it will fall back to the old admin mode with two sessions available and no license nagging

    Thanks to reverend

Use teamviewer? just log into your account at teamviewer.com and you will see your server sitting there purring like a cat waiting to be stroked ;-)

Wouldn't it be better to use rdp via the web? Or team viewer just as good then?

also how would I share a file / folder say with my parents in Portugal?

Yeah teamviewer is just as good in fact prob better with its file transfer system (got me out of trouble a couple of times when need a file from home at work;-) and means you don't have to worry about static IP's or DynamicDNS and NAT'ing your firewall

The only issue I have is I don't want my parents to have access to the system only a certain folder.
    is that possible?

Where are your parents? and how would RDP over the internet overcome that issue? As I am not 100% but think with RDP you have to connect as an Administrator

You could create them a basic user account on the server and let them connect with teamviewer with that account.

Else you would have to share the folder but I don't think sharing it across the internet would be a good idea.

I would be looking at something like onedrive to sync the folder and share to them via that over the internet.

If its all your movies and TV then you going to hit limits tho?

Add the Server Essentials Role. It'll set up a website for you that allows you to share out folders and RDP to machines.

This is what I have done for my sister. It doesn't have to be an admin account, pretty sure she is just a user with access to media folders.

Ah yeah you need to add them to the remote desktop users group for a non administrator to be allowed to RDP http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...(v=ws.10).aspx

I'm using 2012 essentials and you just need to configure remote web access and configure your dns name eg library.remotewebaccess.com and then create your family user accounts and they can then access any network shares they have access too over the web. Can also rdp as well.
