    Default Bike chain lube question?

What are the properties of bike chain lube oil? Fuck paying £6 a pop for a poxy bottle of lube oil

On the ship I have access tanks of the stuff bigger than my room, and all sorts of various machine oils... maybe one of the thinner based gear oils would be suitable?

They wouldnt even notice if 5l went walkies.....

Personally for my bike chain I only ever use Castrol Magnatec 5W-30.

Its expensive stuff but you will find that using it over a 25 year period you will find that your £5.99 bike chain will last about 6 hours longer than if you used any old crap from the pound shop!

    Thanks to MsDG

KY in small amounts. I use Pedro's usually. But I also go through three chains per cassette so usual life is about 4-5 months.

I put winter bike oil on and its stops it from rusting. Spray it with gt45 after every ride as well just to keep it fresh. It's black as fuck now after a few years but it rolls silent still after 4 years

i'm thinking that one of the lower viscosity lube oils I have on board will do the trick. We have lots of gear oils and machine oil I think would work

Get yourself some dry teflon lube. Using oil will attract dirt and crap which will end up ruining your chain and derailleur.
