I've fixed my battery usage without dumbing down my smart phone. The main wake locks were the nlp ones as described above plus one called bam_dmux.

I fixed it by turning off background data for apps that don't really need it. You can see how much each app uses in the data usage section of the settings.

I'm now down to using around 4% of battery overnight and the phone is back to lasting over two days with normal usage.

Was that using that WakeLock Terminator you mentioned in your last post, Malty?
I'm using KK now on my S3 but with CyanogenMod (from the installer) and battery life is taking a hit - I have no location settings on at all as I never use them.

I have it installed but never used it.
Install better battery stats, charge your phone full then unplug and leave it alone for a few hours.

Looking at the cpu states section, you want to see mostly deep sleep, like at least 90% of the time. If it isn't, start going through the wake locks, kernel and partial. Anything more than a few minutes in a few hours worth of monitoring is hurting your battery life.

You want certain wake locks to receive push email etc but there are loads of unnecessary ones. When I started my deep sleep was about half the time, now I'd say it's 95%

    Nice one, cheers.
I've used that app before but to be honest, got a bit baffled/lost patience.
    I'll give it another bash.

Screen on time on any phone from any manufacturer will always kill the battery you can't really help it too much so you need to minimise battery usage when in standby.

It is over complicated. Just look at awake vs deep sleep and any wake lock that's active for more than say half an hour out of ten

Cheers again. Guess I should charge and then leave overnight and see what's happening.
