    Default Passport expiry?

Taking the family on holiday in the last week in June first week in July, thinking of Tenerife, problem is my 16 year old sons passport runs out on 14/07/14, this is a week after we would be due to return, however I have been told that the passport needs to have at least 6 month left on it before expiry date when travelling to certain destinations, anybody know if this is true?

Doesn't need 6 months in Europe.

According to the link above, Tenerife is considered part of Europe.

Check with the airline though as some of them have their own restrictions. Personally I'd renew it first anyway as what if you are delayed for any reason? (Stayed away extra 9 days before when nipper got chickenpox)

just renew the passport and they will add the 6 months you currently have to the new passport date, then no issues and no worry when you want to travel

I would also renew, just to be safe. It takes 3 weeks to get a passport from when you send it, according to the .gov site.

I cocked up with my last one and had to go and sit in Peterborough for the day to get it turned around while I waited. It wasn't too bad tbh, think I was home by 6pm at the latest and it was a couple of hours drive!

You'll be allowed in the country... BUT a lot of travel companies and airlines insist on the 6 months. As has been said , if it's renewed now then the time gets added on
