Default Things to do in New York?

What to do that's a little different? We're gonna do all the regular touristy stuff but what can anyone suggest that you wouldn't normally hear about?
First night and I'm wide awake at 4am, fucking jet lag!
We've had a walk through Central Park, watched a game in an Irish bar, and been to Times Square so far.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the funky gibbon.

South street sea port is quite nice, for food, beer and views of Brooklyn bridge.

Walk along the high line - an old disused train flyover thats now been revamped into a nice walking path

walk over the brooklyn bridge and have pizza at grimaldis (I think thats whats it was called)

generally wander round finding filming locations (me and my son found the firestation from ghostbusters which isnt really publicised - they've got the ghostbusters sign stuck away in the back)

The weather probably isnt the warmest there at the minute Im guessing but It s good for walking round as you dont overheat..

here s few more suggestions from atlas obscura..

Find a random Australian bar down one of the side streets near Manhattan that sells Oysters for $1 each, then have some 70 year old gay bloke who lives upstairs buy them for you to try!

True story, really happened... I will try and find the name of the bar, we had a very good night that night (not me and the gay guy!)

The Meat Packing District was the place to go, when I went in 2005. Plenty of young trendy girls to make friends with too. I met a nice little Texan.

Went round WTC today, then over to Brooklyn by subway. Spent some time over there and walked back over the bridge.
Had a look round South Street Sea Port but it was pretty much shut up. I'm guessing it was too early for the bars and too late for the shops.

I would definitely recommend not eating at any sort of chain restaurants that you could find elsewhere. There's a lot of good food you can find in New York for not too much. E.g. the Shake Shack, Luke's Lobsters, Joe's Shanghai in Chinatown. I'm a big foodie, so whenever I visit I make sure to try new things. Other than that, I would suggest walking to all your destinations within reason because there's a lot of little nuanced areas which are interesting to look at. Avoid the empire state building and go to the top of the rock at midtown. Walk across the Brooklyn bridge, highline park, check out the natural history museum. The Staten Island Ferry ride is always cool too.

Ate in Hell's Kitchen last night, it was ace. It was recommended by a native New Yorker, he said 'It's a bit gay but we save the best food for ourselves'.
