Cleaning a console.

Mentioned previously how I convinced a Muppet to swap me his Dreamcast for an OnLive console.
All well and good but I think the console was stored in a deep fat fryer then dipped in pieces of skin!

It is properly filthy, there is certainly a chance I will die a horrible death if I get some of the shit under my nails.

So, question is are there any products that are good for cleaning old machines. Am I better off stripping it all down, pads too, and giving it a soak in some soapy water and doing what I can with a sponge?

I might have to post some pictures of how dirty it is. I would hate to see the rest of the scruffy twats house.

I picked up a N64 off fleabay a few years back, both the console and the controllers were fucking disgusting.
I stripped the lot down and wash it in water and fairy liquid. It all cleaned up a treat, and the controllers now work really well.
Have done the same with MasterSystem and MegaDrive controllers.

Side project this week then. I also have a megadrive and mega CD I recently won on eBay that needs similar treatment although I challenge anything to be as dirty as the Dreamcast!

Dunno how easy it is to get your hands on but in my first job in the engineering dept they have some liquid you could dip electronic stuff in and it came out looking like new but did not conduct water e.t.c
The boss used to dip entire old Wyse60/TTy dumb terminals in it !!!! Not sure what is was called either so this post probably aint much use to you either !!!!

They had it at school I think.. Although I think this would be a challenge to anything.
Might have to contact one of the cleaning product manufacturers out there and see if they want it as a test, make an advert out of it.

I've always stripped the consoles down and given em a bath, tooth power and a softish bush can bring matt plastics up well too, but abrasive to shiny surfaces.

What I always do is strip down, wash covers/plastic parts in soapy water with a toothbrush to get in the corners. Methelated spirit on a soft clean cloth is good for removing any felt tip pen or sticker glue. Methelated spirit can also be used to clean circuit boards using a soft brush. (">

Tip #1: If you don't have an old toothbrush, use the wife's toothbrush.
Tip #2: No clean soft cloth. Substitute a pair of the wife's cotton panties. If you're not sure which type are suitable post a picture here, preferably with the wife modeling them.
Tip #3: Soft brush for circuit board cleaning = the wife's blusher brush - usually found in her make up bag.

You can get a single pack from Amazon for 13 quid or so if you've not got access to CostCo.

I don't know what's in them but they're great for cleaning most surfaces and they disinfect too so you know most of the germs will be banished forever!

They seem great for everything I've cleaned up so far - even laptops come up in a much better state afterwards! They'd be shite for the internals though :/
